It was founded by the B.C. Women&#8217;s Institute in 1923. In 1928, the facility admitted the first little patient as Vancouver&#8217;s Crippled Children&#8217;s Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1933 was marked by the opening of a new Crippled Children&#8217;s Hospital. In 1947, the institution was renamed Vancouver\u2019s Children&#8217;s Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Long-lasting_construction\"><\/span>Long-lasting construction<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is worth noting that the hospital\u2019s construction process was quite long. Still, it was finally completed in 1982 and cost $60 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The institution, with an area of 29,730 square metres, housed 250 beds for emergency care patients. The hospital was also equipped with an adolescent unit, a modern isolation unit, a rehabilitation unit, a psychiatric unit and a special care nursery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expansion\"><\/span>Expansion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1985 was marked by the opening of the Children&#8217;s Variety Research Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Medical Day Unit was expanded in 2002. It ensured proper care for children with complex medical problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Modern_Ambulatory\"><\/span>Modern Ambulatory<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2003 was marked by the opening of a new Ambulatory Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After such an expansion, the facility acquired 24 specialized pediatric medical and surgical clinics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the architects, the applied sustainable design features maximized natural ventilation, let in more daylight and reduced electricity consumption thanks to task lighting and occupancy sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Another_modernization\"><\/span>Another modernization<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inpatient units were modernized in 2005. It cost almost $7 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2007 was marked by the reconstruction and renaming of the oncology unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, that year, the institution opened a new Mental Health Building. It became the first institution in Canada to provide psychiatric care to children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The modernized four-story facility began to help children and adolescents with serious mental problems. In addition, its services included emergency and long-term psychiatric care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Teck_Acute_Care_Centre\"><\/span>Teck Acute Care Centre<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2014, the hospital began the construction of the new Teck Acute Care Centre. The project cost $676 million and consisted of three stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The building turned out to be very bright and modern. Its single-occupant patient rooms have access to natural light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The centre is equipped with medical and surgical inpatient units, emergency care, medical imaging, procedure rooms, hematology unit, oncology unit and pediatrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Well-known_medical_facility\"><\/span>Well-known medical facility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ivancouver.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2022\/11\/17085231\/img_63741be9678a0.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vancouver\u2019s British Columbia Children&#8217;s Hospital is known for its wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. It provides children with highly specialized medical care.
