As a child, he was fond of wind instruments, theatre, vocals and piano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1969, he attended the Banff School for Fine Arts. Later, he entered the University of Saskatchewan. There he studied composition with Murray Adaskin. Later, the future composer decided to continue his studies at the University of Victoria. There, he became a student of Rudolf Komorous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1977, David wrote his first opera <em>Humulus the Mute<\/em>. Its premiere took place in 1979 at the presentation of the production by George Corwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Profitable_offer\"><\/span>Profitable offer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1979, David MacIntyre was invited to teach at one of the faculties of Simon Fraser University. Thus, he became one of the co-founders of the special Contemporary Music program. David was also entrusted with teaching a course in music composition. In addition, he was engaged in interdisciplinary cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He worked at the university for 38 years, until he retired in early September 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Creative_activity\"><\/span>Creative activity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1983, the composer collaborated with one of the famous choreographers Karen Jamieson. They were working on <em>Sisyphus<\/em>, which later was recognized as one of the best compositions of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1988, his music, created together with Jean Perreault, was also highly praised in the New York Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, the publication noted that the score, written by Vancouver composer David MacIntyre, can be considered perfect in its fragmentary structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some phrases (not always melodic) were played by soloists and ten instrumentalists. It created the effect of rich and overlapping textures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moreover, MacIntyre\u2019s <em>The Architect<\/em> became the first opera to be commissioned by the Vancouver Opera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that period, he also finished writing <em>Ave Maria<\/em>, which brought him incredible success and popularity. It was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2012, his opera cabaret was nominated for Outstanding Original Composition of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The composer\u2019s musical drama <em>Tom Pinkerton, The Ballad of Butterfly&#8217;s Son<\/em> was included in the list of the best musicals of 2012 by the Playwrights Guild of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Composers_style\"><\/span>Composer\u2019s style<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">David MacIntyre is known as a theatre composer. He created opera, musical theatre, instrumental and choral compositions.
