The orthodontics is run by a specialist, not by the general dentist

In most downtown offices braces and aligners are planned by the same dentist who does the fillings. O2 Dental splits the work in two. Every orthodontic case belongs to Dr. Mona Afrand, a certified Specialist in Orthodontics; general, surgical and implant dentistry stays with the owner, Dr. Siamak Khosro Tehrani. The clinic states the distinction on its own braces page: treatment is overseen by someone whose entire training is tooth movement.

Treatments

General dentistry: exams and cleanings, digital X-rays, fillings, root canal treatment, wisdom tooth removal, children’s dentistry, night and sports guards, emergency care for a broken or knocked-out tooth. Restorative and cosmetic: implants and implant-supported restorations, gum grafting for receding gums, complete and partial dentures, porcelain veneers, whitening and smile makeovers.

Orthodontics

LightForce brackets are 3D-printed to the shape of each individual tooth, so accurate force is applied from the start instead of being chased through adjustments. Invisalign covers the cases suited to a removable aligner, and Dr. Afrand combines both where a case calls for it. A Carriere appliance corrects the bite before the main phase. For children there is interceptive treatment from about age seven and palatal expanders; skeletal discrepancies too large for braces alone are planned with an oral surgeon.

Dr. Tehrani — DDS, University of Toronto, after a first dental degree in Tehran; a clinical periodontics diploma from the University of Paris VI; a mastership in implant dentistry through Dental XP at NYU; certification in Dermal ARC gum graft surgery and in oral and nitrous oxide sedation. Dr. Afrand — DDS from the University of Toronto, then a three-year residency and a Master of Science in Orthodontics at the University of Alberta, and a university diploma in pediatric orthodontics from Paris VI.

Teenagers and adults who want braces or aligners planned by a specialist without leaving their family dentist. Parents of a seven-year-old whose bite is developing the wrong way. Anyone downtown with receding gums, since the grafting is done here rather than referred out. Anxious patients — the owner is certified in oral and nitrous oxide sedation.
